The John Wheat Chapter was originally named the Galvez Chapter and changed their name when Captain Russell (Rusty) Terrell (USCG-ret) was State President in 2004-2005. At the time of the name change, there was a large number of descendants of John Wheat. Unfortunately, after Hurricane Katrina hit Mississippi in 2005, the chapter became non-functional.
