Compatriot Lynam was a Navy World War II Veteran and finished his 20 years of military service in the Air Force. Following his military service, he spent 10 years as a Mail Carrier in Ocean Springs, MS. He was a HAM operator and was quite helpful during Hurricane Katrina. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Gulf Coast Chapter.        This chapter was originally founded on 03 Aprl 1964 as the Colonial Patriots Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. After Hurricane Katrina, compatriot Lynam was one of the few remaining members in this chapter.

He was instrumental in the survival of the chapter and on 19 March 2019, the chapter was renamed in his honor.

The James Vernon Lynam, Sr. Chapter meets at 11:30am on the 2nd Thursday of the month from September throu May. Meetings are held at the Panda Palace Resaurant located at 15200 Crossroads Parkway, Gulfport, MS. There is a Buffet lunch available for purchase.
